Description

About ANSI #50H Heavy Duty Cottered Roller Chains

The ANSI #50H cottered roller chain combines the heavy-duty #50H build with cotter-pin assembly, so the chain can be installed, shortened, extended, or repaired on site with simple hand tools — no rivet cutting or special tooling required.

Two features set this chain apart. First, it is a heavy-duty #50H: side plates are 2.42 mm thick (standard #50 cottered uses 2.03 mm) and weight is 1.25 kg/m versus about 1.02 kg/m, so it stands up to heavy loads and shock. Second, the pins are locked with cotter pins instead of being riveted: pull the cotter, slide out the pin, and the chain opens. That makes installation, length adjustment, section replacement and repair possible on site in minutes, without cutting rivets or using a chain breaker.

This is the chain of choice for equipment that is maintained in the field and where downtime is expensive — agricultural machinery, grain and feed handling, elevators, packaging lines and conveying systems that need regular service or are built to custom lengths.

FAQs

#50H cottered vs standard #50 cottered Roller Chain— what's the difference?
Same 5/8" pitch and roller geometry; the #50H version uses thicker plates (2.42 mm vs 2.03 mm) and higher mass (1.25 kg/m vs 1.02 kg/m) for heavier service.
Cottered vs riveted #50H — which should I choose?
If the drive runs continuously under heavy shock loads with little maintenance access, choose the riveted #50H.
If you need on-site installation, repair, or length changes with hand tools, choose the cottered version.
