About ANSI #40 Stainless Steel Roller Chains

CTS® #40 Stainless Steel Roller Chain

ANSI #40 simplex stainless steel roller chains are renowned for its exceptional durability and corrosion resistance and have reliability in demanding environments. CTS® stainless steel roller chains are designed to withstand rigorous conditions, making it ideal for use in food processing plants, where frequent washdowns with aggressive cleaning agents are common.

The #40SS roller chain is constructed from austenitic stainless steel, offering resistance to corrosion and washdowns; it is suitable for environments involving moisture or frequent cleaning, such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, and outdoor equipment. 304 stainless steel is the standard material, while 316 stainless steel (offering superior salt and corrosion resistance) is available upon request. The chain is manufactured to ANSI B29.1 standards and is fully interchangeable with all 1/2-inch pitch #40 sprockets that meet this standard.

#40 Stainless VS #40 Carbon Steel Roller Chain

Carbon Steel C45 #40 Roller Chain
Stainless Steel #40SS Roller Chain
Standard C45 steel #40 roller chain offers higher tensile strength and lower cost, making it suitable for standard, dry operating conditions.
In contrast, the #40SS stainless steel chain provides far superior corrosion resistance. However, its initial cost is higher; it offers a much longer service life in environments involving moisture or frequent washdowns, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership.
Both types share the same pitch and are fully compatible with the same sprockets.
